Carminati explores the fire escape from a conceptual point of view: the way out of an urban emergency for the sake of survival. However, when fire sets on forests and crops, is there a way out? This expanded painting reveals a version of Anneken Hendriks burning depicted by Jan Luyken overlapping an image of the current wildfires burning wheat crops in Spain. The works create an analogy between art processes and natural successions, in this case, both burning to destruction. If, as Goethe has said, art’s a manifestation of the laws of nature, the only possible destiny of this work was to turn into ashes, remains, and burn in the fire.
