On my way down the fire escape,
I saw things my eyes could barely believe.

And at first, I was frightened,
but at second glance I felt a kinship with these forms of – unfamiliarity,
surprising uncertainty,
and absurdity.

For in those forms and figures,
I could feel the most hidden parts of myself,
and I could show them
a new way out into the world…

Anna Révész

Dream Escape explores ideas of surrealism to recontextualise the human form and offer a new
perspective on the body and the way it interacts with its surroundings. Using a combination of still photography and photo-montage, familiar forms are melted into the unfamiliar – eyes glance at you from every angle, limbs twist and slump onto warm brick, and ghostly figures threaten to diffuse into thin air at any second (or envelop you until your breath is sticky and heavy). The figures from your dreams are starting to escape – will you hold them back, or will you let them see what reality is all about?

BIO. Anna Révész is an emerging, Adelaide-based artist working across several mediums, with a
particular interest in photography and the opportunities it presents to capture, relive or totally
reinvent moments in time. Révész explores the interchange between past and present moments
and attempts to navigate spaces of instability and uncertainty. Utilising both digital and analogue
photography, as well as sculpture, painting and drawing, she explores ideas of memory and how
it is created, sustained or reconstructed. Révész allows room in her works for contemplation and
reflection – a slowing down of pace that becomes an antidote to the fast-paced nature of modern existence.
