Projects 2014

2 years of Fire Escape

Group show and anniversary event. Deconstrucción, in English Deconstruction, is the name of the exhibition which we celebrate our 2 years of life.

For the birthday of this young and energetic gallery, we full of surprises, the group exhibition Deconstruction, curated by Anna García and María Castillo, in collaboration with Art Deal Project and theorized by Javier Moreno, creator of the manifesto that brings together the work of the ten leading artists and their works. From Fire Escape, we want this manifesto to be the catalyst for the rupture between gender stereotypes. Therefore, through the 10 artworks that were exhibited in our gallery, we offer a new reading that will allow us to question many of the classifications related to this type of role, an effort aimed at questioning the genre, without plots or borders.

Anna García, Bälu, Beatriz Suárez Saa , Carmen Hurtado, Curro Gómez, Emilio Subirá, Gerard Calderón, Miguel Leal, Rocío Verdejo & Tea Guarascio.

The opening was plenty of cake, drinks and live music for all kinds of bodies and souls.

Mad Face by Miguel Leal

Miguel Leal Fire Escape
Mad Face by Miguel Leal

Solo show. Mad Face is a personal project that the artist Miguel Leal investigates unknown lines of expression. Leal began experimenting for the first time with photography, resulting in unforeseen experiences and a new creative universe. Portraits of the dark side of the human being. The hidden self is fixed by light to a sensitive material representing the most sordid everyday life.

Mad Face shows the arrogance of our social masks, exposed to the public with humour, hooliganism, much irony and some shivering. The latent antagonism of nature is also revealed in MAD FACE, faces hidden from naked bodies. And it gathers something else, which is everywhere; beauty expressing itself in the language dictated by Miguel Leal.

Opening Circuit. Fire Escape has been chosen as one of the leading galleries of the artistic circuit of the largest international gay and lesbian leisure-cultural festival in Europe, the Circuit Festival. On Thursday, August 7, the gallery celebrates the Opening Circuit with a performance and the Mad Face expo by Miguel Leal on the walls of the Fire Staircase.

The performance by the artist in which he will intervene to a real person creating a Mad Face of flesh and blood. Its action will happen on the days of the Circuit Festival, so of course, the music will be present. While Leal turns a human being into a work of art, music will be played by Matinée All-Star Javier Medina.

MORE. Live! Mad Face. During 12 hours the gallery will become the workshop of Miguel Leal, where the artist will intervene live. Those who want to make their Mad Face are invited, from 11.00 am to 11.00 pm. you can go through the Fire Escape to see the creative process and work of the artist as well as to pose as models and take your customized Mad Face . All this will be broadcast in streaming video from the gallery website.

Accende Lumen Sensibus by Curro Gómez

Curro Gómez Fire Escape
Gsus by Curro Gómez

Solo show. Accende Lumen Sensibus, disturbing slogan gives us the key to the work that Curro Gómez presented in Fire Escape. In this exhibition, we found a selection of his works with a key objective, to turn the senses with the light of knowledge. Accende Lumen Sensibus is a verse taken from the Catholic liturgy of the ninth century that invokes the Holy Spirit as a guide to knowledge.

Curro aims to perversely recode the religious symbols and mass culture to activate in the viewer that knowledge but based on the questioning of everything, tradition and the overlapping of elements that have happened throughout history. This constant change has led to the integration of iconic elements, the abandonment of some and the mutation of others. In this sense, he points to a technique with which he has been experimenting for many years, the superposition of elements in various pictorial techniques.

In the exhibition, Accende Lumen Sensibus, Curro Gómez plays to subvert the images by scraped paint, intervened with collage elements, rubber seals, etching, sprays a clear component that drinks from the sources of street art carried inside on paper, canvas and wood.

La Vitrina at La Penúltima

Different artists, art installation, group or solo. Our belief in exhibiting art in unusual spaces, La Penúltima, a typical Barcelona winery, has given us a place within its wonderful space, La Vitrina. We have been fortunate to occupy that special space on different occasions. The aim is to showcase artists through their installations in the showcase. From Fire Escape we thank you infinitely for giving us this showcase to advance on this path of artistic diffusion.

Artists, Zigor Azkargorta, Anna García, Kraznai, Dario Furente, Alex Martínez and Woodamp.
