2015 was a great year. Based in the gallery at St Antoni suburb we ran from there awesome art projects. The most important one was the launch of the Young Gallery Weekend Festival. The first edition was incredible, at this stage we didn’t expected how big will grow up the festival in the future. Such a great experience!

Sol Negro by Rubenimichi

Solo show. Sol Negro, The Black Sun illuminates us with the darkness of knowledge. Black Sun is one of the multiple names given to Saturn, God of the harvest that represents the cycles of life, but also the relentless passage of time and, therefore, death. To know Him is to try to understand our meaning and our purpose, and to seek His influence is to embrace knowledge, even if it is through the darkness. Rubenimichi manages to get closer to that cosmic language, tracing the symbols, taking them as his own and playing with their mystery.

Rubenimichi are Ruben, Michi and Luisjo, a kind of monster with three heads and six perfectly coordinated hands since 1996. Figurative, symbolic and surreal, his work creates a sort of magical realism that invites the observer to let his imagination run wild by getting lost in the intricate details of his paintings in search of his particular interpretation.

Park(ing) Day FLASH THE MAP!

Parking Day Fire Escape
Parking Day Fire Escape

Creative action. Fire Escape and Encajes Urbanos in Park(ing) Day Barcelona 2015 presented the project FLASH THE MAP!!

We adapted a parking space as a participation space around the vindication of green areas in the city and the reactivation of the neighborhood rooftops. To do this, we propose an interactive map where we can visualize desires and needs in relation to the rooftops as collectively habitable spaces, and a Photocall that allows to freeze the moment. Later, the results were shown in a special event where all participants will be invited.

Happy Nothing by Yurian Quintanas

Solo show. For some people the desert represents decay and death. There is scarcity of water and shade, extremely temperatures and a lack of resources for humans to survive. But at the same time there is a long tradition of the desert as a place of healing, both physically and spiritually.

With the Californian desert as background, Happy Nothing is a personal journey that delves into the lives of its inhabitants and its secrets. Here is where ex-convicts, war veterans, retirees and people that for some reason have decided to stay outside of the society live. In these towns there is no running water, the houses are in ruins, the streets unpaved, without street lighting, there are no supermarkets or entertainment infrastructures. But despite living in this conditions, they call it the Paradise.

Yurian Quintanas

Fire Escape showcased Happy Nothing at DOCfield>15 Documentary Photography Festival in Barcelona. In its third edition of a collective initiative led by the Photographic Social Vision Foundation that recognizes the social value of documentary photography and photojournalism.

Bromothymol Blue by Pedro García-Pantaleón

Frame Bromothymol Blue

Solo show. Bromothymol Blue is a physical experiment executed in a recording studio and filmed with a macro lens and meticulous lighting. The artist creates unique characteristics and peculiar atmospheres from the raw material, hybrid images which encourage the viewer to investigate their origins. It is filmed with a digital camera at 24 frames per second capturing a water jet emerging from a silicon tube attached to a subwoofer membrane which emits sounds frequencies ranging between 18 and 35 Hz. This depicts the scheduled recording of an imperceptible effect by the human eye, something extraordinary in a recording studio.

Visual art showing the vital relationship between image and sound; cause is where the masterpiece is born. This video art is a critique of the monopoly of the pharmaceutical industry and the explotation of natural resources, in this case, water. The artist presents his research in Bromothymol Blue video art, bonding technology and substance, sound and image, action and reaction, capturing the water behavior caused by different sound frequencies.

Fire Escape was part of LOOP Videoart Festival in Barcelona with Bromothymol Blue.
